Teach Me Tuesday- Victorian Top Hat Pin Cushion

Welcome everyone to the MB's Treasurista Teach Me Tuesday! This week I'll be showing you how to create a Victorian Top Hat Pin Cushion. Sounds complicated but trust me... it's easy peasy!

This is the list of supplies you'll need other than adhesive and embellishments.
1. Chipboard circle cut to 5 1/2'' with an inner circle cut at 3 1/4''
2. Chipboard sheet cut to 4 1/2'' x 12'', marked at 4'' x 12'' with a pen
3. Piece of design paper cut to 4 1/2'' x 12''
4. Piece of design paper circle cut to 5 1/2''
5. Design paper circle cut to 5 1/2'' with an inner circle of 3 1/4''
6. Piece of fabric, roughly 15'' x 15''
7. Poly Fill

Here are the steps to follow:

1. Adhere card stock (4 1/2'' x 12'') to chipboard back to back. 4'' pen marking should be visible on the back.

2. Turn over covered chipboard and cut slits to the 4'' line. Fold back tabs.

3. Adhere card stock to chipboard circles (with inner circles)

4. Roll the 4 x12'' piece into the circle pieces. Once inside, the piece will overlap into itself. You'll want it to overlap for stability.

5. Glue all the little tabs on bottom of "hat" down with hot glue. When done, also glue together overlapping piece.

6. Your hat should look like this:

7. Now we're going to make the "pin cushion" part of the pin cushion. Take the fabric and wrap it around your poly fill.Your cushion should be as smooth as possible at the top and should measure about 4 1/2- 5'' wide at it's widest point. Secure with string or rubber band. Trim excess fabric.

8. Insert the cushion into your hat and hot glue securely from the inside.

9. Your pin cushion should look like this... Don't worry if your pin cushion looks a bit messy. It'll all be covered by lace and your embellishments.

10. Add the last 5 1/2'' card stock circle to the bottom to cover the mechanics of it all.

11. Now it's time to embellish! Add your lace around the entire body of the pin cushion. This will cover any visual imperfections. I personally love to use the 4'' wide vintage white scalloped flower lace from MBT. It's the perfect width and stunning!

12. Now embellish any way you'd like! Add great supplies from MB's Treasurista.

BTW- Don't forget about your stick pins. Misty carries a great array of supplies from pins to crystal pins, to bead caps.

Teach Me Tuesday

Teach Me Tuesday

Today's tutorial is brought to you by the talented

leslie! Today she will be showing you how to make flower centers!

TUTORIAL TIME!!!

Here are the supplies you will need:

~scissors

~hot glue gun

~3/4" circle punch

~1" circle punch (for larger bling)

~assorted bling

~silver mesh bling from MBsTreasurista

~white cardstock

Start off by punching out the amount of cardstock circles you will need.

Put a small amount of hot glue in center of circle

Press down on bling until it dries

Place silver mesh bling around the bling in a circular motion

Keep going around the bling

until you reach the end...

Cut the bling off of the strand

And there you now have a blinged flower center.

You can also use any other shape of bling you might have...

Use the larger cardstock circle and place glue in the center of the circle

and press down on the bling until dry

Place silver mesh bling again around the edge of the bling

until you reach the end

As you can see the cardstock is larger than the bling, so you

just trim off the excess cardstock

And now you have another awesome center to use in your flowers!!

Teach Me Tuesday

Today's tutorial is brought to you by the talented Katie! Today she will be showing you how to make custom colored mesh bling!

TUTORIAL TIME!!!

Here are the supplies you will need:

~Any pair of scissors

~Q-Tips or any brand of cotton swabs

~Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink

~Silver Mesh Bling

(Do you see where I am going with this) ;)

Step 1: Take your scissors and cut out the length of silver mesh bling you are needing for your designated project.

Step 2: Take the TH Alcohol Ink and put a small dot onto the tip of the cotton swap. Because the cotton is super absorbent you will likey need another small dot depending on the shade of color you are trying to achieve as well as the length of silver mesh bling you have to dye.

Step 3: Dab each "bling" section with the alcohol inked cotton swab. Just use a pouncing method for this step. And keep repeating this until you have achieved the desired look and color.

Final Product: Custom "Silver Mesh Bling" to match any project! :)

MBT "Love & Romance" Creative Challenge

Welcome to the first ever January 2012 Design Team Creative Challenge! Every other month, I challenge my Design Team and our fans to create projects within a special theme, a sketch, or using a specific product line. This month, i have asked my designers to create love/valentine/romance themed projects. Now there is more to this challenge than just the theme, you must also not use pink or red....now that may get you thinking...huh! Oh and did I mention that the winner of the challenge will win a treasure chest of MBT goodies. You won't want to miss out on your chance to win an amazing package of MBT Treasures, so I hope you participate!

Here's an overview of the rules:

MBT Winter Wonderland Blog Hop

Hello and thank you for joining us for the MB's Treasurista Winter Wonderland Blog Hop. I'm so happy you can join me in our first ever MB's Treasurista DT Exclusive blog hop! This is also the debut of my Design Team. Woohoo!!! :) I can't wait for you to see what these girls can do.

There are some amazing ladies on this hop so please make sure you visit all the stops. You won't want to miss a thing. Ok now on to my project.....

I'm so excited about this project as i have never altered a Michael's Balsa Box from the dollar bin. I painted it with white acrylic paint, then i used the awesome Iced Spruce Distress Ink from the new winter limited edition Distress Inks by Tim Holtz. Then covered the top and back with matte mod podge and dipped it in a pile of Diamond Dust. I love the snowy look it added to the box!!!! I used the new blue pleated trim w/ lace that will be available on the 1st of January at MB's Treasurista. I also used some trim from my stash for the closure. For the top i used a large gardenia from iamroses and various other iamroses flowers. I accented the flowers with winter buttons, clear wheat leaves and clear large acrylic flowers which are available at the MBT Shop! i also added some feet by painting wood balls with pale blue acrylic paint and hot gluing them to the bottom. I hope you like this project as much as i do, it will be placed on my mantle for all of winter...hehe Here are some more pics:

Chocolate Chunk Peanut Butter Cookies

Ingredients : Makes 36 cookies

18 oz Jar Natural Peanut Butter
1 cup White Sugar
½ cup Brown Sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
¾ cup Chocolate Chunks

Directions :

Preheat Oven to 350 deg F. Grease Cookie Sheet
In medium bowl, stir together peanut butter & sugar until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in baking soda and vanilla. Mix in Chocolate chunks .
Roll dough into one inch balls and place 2 inches apart on cookie sheet.
Bake for 8-10min. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5min before moving to wire cooling rack

November DT Projects

Hello everyone! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and show you my November projects.

My name is Leslie Owens and I have been crafting in some form or another for over 20 years! My sister taught me how to crochet when I was a teenager and then I learned to cross stitch. I then started working with wood tole painting and then I found my passion-scrapbooking and paper crafting. I am so honored to be on the MB's Treasurista Design Team! Thank you Misty for this wonderful opportunity!

So on to my projects....

The first project is some altered wood letters that spell out DREAM. I just love this phrase as it reminds me to never give up on your dreams. My scraproom is pink and green so I wanted something to match my room.

I used several of the products from the store including the pink 1" crystals,white lace w/light pink pleated trim,clear acrylic wheat sprays,light pink Chinese braid trim,pink acrylic flower sprays,white braided sequin trim, and pink acrylic butterfly stem.

I love how the project just came together beautifully with all of the gorgeous products from the store.

For my second project I altered one of the Michael's balsa wood boxes. I wanted to go with the blue and brown color scheme. The title of the box is Life's Little Treasures and that is Misty's slogan for the shop. I thought it would be a wonderful project to send to her.

For this one I used the brown Chinese braid trim, the blue acrylic flower sprays,brown and white baker's twine, and the light blue crystal diamonds, plus some other miscellaneous trims and flowers from my stash.

I hope you have enjoyed my projects and I cannot wait to show you my December ones!!

So here is my Anything but a Card project!!!

Here are some pics of my "Winter Wishes" Frame...

I created this frame using a one dollar Michaels wood frame. I started with a mixture of pale blue and suede acrylic paint to paint the entire frame. I distressed the edges of the frame with frayed burlap distress ink. I then embossed the frame using a snowflake stamp with a la mode sparkle embossing powder, then i used the "Holly Flourish Border stamp by Hero Arts with a la mode white embossing powder. I used some tear drop pearl trim on the top part of the frame opening; that will me coming to my shop (MB's Treasurista) soon. I framed the inside of the frame with pearl trim from my stash. In the bottom left corner i used iamroses flowers, recollection leaves and a snowflake button. I also added acrylic wheat leaves and a blue acrylic flower that i have available in my shop. I finished the frame off with a cute "Winter Wishes" sentiment that i typed and printed on card stock from word, then i added a glittered snowflake and glittered tree. Oh, and for the picture i just used dcwv design paper from the luxury mat stack, until i find a picture. Hope you enjoy it!!!:)

Shabby Blue Ornament

Before

Ok so i started with a one dollar paper mache ornament that you can get at michaels.

After

I made this ornament for the November Ornament Challenge at CCL (Creating the Crafty Life) hosted by Lina. This challenge was so much fun!!! I can't wait to make more ornaments. I painted it with pale blue acrylic paint. Then i distressed the edges with frayed burlap distress ink. I wrapped some gorgeous sequin trim from my stash at an angle around the ornament. i used some pearl trim and placed it along two sides. For the top i made a vintage Victorian type stick pin just without the bottom beads and pushed it in the top. Make sure you add some hot glue under the bottom bead cap before you stick it in the ornament. To finish it off i added some bead caps to an eye pin and stuck in the bottom of the ornament also using some hot glue for extra security. i added a little dangle to the bottom that i got from michaels last year. I love the way it came out. It is so my style like a blue shabby chic winter ornament :)

DT Call only Open to Canada and US Residents

To qualify as a DT Member you must have an active blog or youtube (must make regular blog post or videos) and have a Facebook account for the MBT DT Group (where we discuss all things MBT DT related)

"BOO" Banner

Hey everyone!!! I have a halloween banner to share with you today. I made this for my partner Cindy for the "Halloween Banner Swap" over at Creating the Crafty Life!!! I painted chipboard with black acrylic paint and covered it with various paper collections. I used K&Co diecuts for the October 31st and the bat. For the "B" i used a random chipboard letter i had and crackled it with tim holtz black soot crackle paint. I layered it on top of a rosette flower and then on top of a spellbinder's diecut that i also embossed with a tim holtz embossing folder. I finished it off with another k&co diecut. I did the same to the "O" except i used a spider diecut! For the last panel i used Prima and iamsoses flowers along with more diecuts. I also edged each panel with pom pom trim on the top and bottom.

Spiderweb Card for "Halloween Card Swap" @ CCL

Ok so i'm back with the second set of cards for the halloween card swap @ Creating the Crafty Life!!! I just love this card. Mostly cause i love flowers, halloween and those acrylic wheat sprays...like OMG! So i started with black card stock then my favorite pattern from last years Ravenhead Manor Collection by Recollections. I used a "Happy Halloween" stampabillities wooden stamp for the sentiment. I used a martha stewart spider web edge punch to make the diecut under the sentiment and on the edge of the pennant.

I love the colors and the way this came out!!! The large flower is from last year and is recollections. The mini roses are prima and recollections and the leaves are iamroses. The wheat sprays which i'm so in love with are from my shop (MB's Treasurista)!!!

I went pretty simple on the inside, layering orange and cray paper from the same collection then some black and cream cardstock. I stamped a cute little spider for a finishing touch.

Spooky Night Card for "Halloween Card Swap" @ CCL

Hey everyone!!! I'm excited to share with you my first halloween card for 2011 (really ever) for the halloween card swap over at CCL (Creating the Crafty Life). This is what i came up with for the first set of 2. I started with some kraft cardstock, and layered using black cardstock and design paper form the new DCWV halloween & fall paper stack. I used an ek success punch for the bats and a martha stewart edge punch for the decorative strip. I have a video below if you would like to see the card from start to finish.

Tipsy Tusday - Saving Money on Crafting

Hey, i know its been a couple weeks since i did Tipsy Tuesday. But i know everyone can use today's tips. Who doesn't want to save money. Crafting is an expensive hobby, no matter what kind of crafts you do, we all buy tools, adhesives, paper, emlishments, storage, etc..... Please read below for some savings tips.

Coupons and Sales:

First every sunday I print all my coupons, check the sale flyers and match up the coupons if they are entire purchase ones with sales. Some times I end up getting deals that i didn't even try to get.
I go almost every week to get the best deal for my money as they have different sales every week, and it helps that i have several of each store to really stretch the money. Doesn't mean i buying allot every week....just the best deal ;)
I am really picky and won't buy anything unless its the cheapest that i can get it, even comparing to internet stores as well.
I also wait on more expensive products, like holiday stuff, punches, tools...etc..cause they will eventually get cheaper with sales and even clearance.
I also sometimes return things to get a better deal... i.e if i bought a 12x12 paper pack when it was 50% off. With tax and everything, it came to just under $12. Then the following week it went on clearance right after the 50% off sale to 5.99. So i havn't even used it yet. I bought one at 5.99 and then returned the other one that was at 50%. I ended up saving another $5.
If you haven't got the Michaels rewards card you really should. They always have specials just for card members!
I also make sure to always use 50% coupons from michaels or joanns no other % offs. I also won't buy anything unless i can get it at least 50% off with sales or coupons. Hobby Lobby is different, and if you never see an item more than 40% off then go ahead and use a 40% off Hobby Lobby Coupon.
Micahels and Joann's accepts competitors coupons, even the entire purchase ones.
When i buy dcwv paper packs, they are normally 50% off at joanns so i won't buy one until i can get it with an additional 20% off entire coupon, which happens often.
NOT ALL SALES are GOOD!!!! Just cause its on sale doesn't mean that its a good deal.
Always check out your clearance sections....many craft stores have tons of awesome things on clearance, and you may find something that you were waiting for, if you were patient.
After awhile of monitoring things you will see the sales and what you can get things for if you wait. Then craft shopping will become easier.
I also won't even pay full price for dollar stuff. I know its a dollar, but that stuff adds up very fast. Use a 50% off coupon and just get one thing. Or wait till there is a 20-25% off entire purchase coupon. Sometimes they will have dollar stuff on sale 40-50% off and that's the best time to hit up the dollar section. Just be patient!!!
The best time to shop for craft stuff is when the store has a 20-25% off entire purchase coupon. Match them with sales and see what you can get.
I almost always wait til after a holiday to buy holiday crafts and decor. If you wait about a week after, you can snag some great deals.
Don't forget black friday...its not just for department stores.
Sign up to receive coupons and emails, and search the internet for coupons...sometimes you will find coupons that were not in the weekly flyer.
Remember that just cause it looks awesome doesn't mean you have to have it right now.....make sure its a great deal then you can get it. Put it on a wish list and its something that you can check online for and then watch when there is an in store sale.
When you do find a spectacular sale on things like adhesive...which you will use allot of, get a few to stock up on.
Just remember to be patient!!!

Discounts Stores:

There are stores that have great craft items at fabulous prices. Check out stores such as Big Lots, Dollar Tree, Any Dollar Store, and Tuesday Morning
Thrift stores and flea markets are also great for finding all sorts of craft stuff, at unbelievably amazing prices.
Garage sales are also wonderful for craft stuff
Great deals on places like ebay, etsy and zibbet!
There are many online daily discount stores and regular discount stores. Just search in google, but here are a few:

Altered Picture Frame

Hey everyone! I'm here today with an altered frame that i made for Terri! This was for a swap that i hosted and was so happy to have Terri as my partner. There will be another Altered Frame Swap coming up in November over at Creating the Crafty Life. Please come on over and take a peek.

For this frame I used a $1 wood frame from Michaels. What an awesome deal as i even got it on sale 3 for a $1! The paint is white acrylic, and the crackle was made using the Deco Art One Step crackle medium. I used walnut reinker to add the weathered look, by using a few drops on each side and wiping the ink all over then off, leaving it in the cracks and random spots. The gorgeous pearl trim is from my stash and may even be coming to my shop :) All the leaves, roses and flowers are from iamroses. I used Starburst Sprays from Lindy's Stamp Gang to color all the iamroses flowers. The white rose buds were painted with Perfect Pearls by ranger. The sprays coming out of the flower bouquet were made using floral picks from Hobby Lobby. I finished it off with some Say it in pearls by Prima.

Tipsy Tusday - Distressing

Hey, i know its been a couple weeks since i did Tipsy Tuesday. But i got a good one and probably my favorite one of all this week, Distressing! In some way, form or fashion, i tend to distress all my projects. I think distressing even just a touch gives projects more depth and a finishing touch. If you love vintage or shabby chic, then these tips and techniques are just perfect for you.

Distressing with Ink:
I tend to use different ink colors depending on the colors of my card, poject or layout.

The most easiest is to ink all the edges. Any ink will work, but Tim Holtz Distress Ink is the best for me. Some people like to use smaller ink pads instead of a full-sized pad or a inking tool. Such as Tsukineko Dew Drop pads which are a pigment ink or the Memento Dew Drops which are a dye-based ink. For this you are only inking the edges so you just get a darker boarder around your project and don't need any tools to do this. Just run the ink pad along the edge of the paper, and it gives it a very fun look.

Just be careful if you have a really juicy pad that you don't get ink anywhere you don't want it.

My favorite way to distress without tearing up the edges are to ink using the tim holtz blending tool with the foam pad. I like to start by holding the paper in one hand, inking up just the corner of the pad and then hitting the edge in a downward fashion, tiny sections at a time, but very quickly, giving a feathered look to the edges, the more you do this the darker it will look.

Make sure your pad isn't too juicy or you will get too much ink in the very first spot and will have to keep blending the other areas to match.
Don't worry if your pad isn't very juicy, just mean you will have to ink up your pad several times.

If you want a large blend and to distress more than the edges, use the same tool. With the paper on a surface that can be cleaned easily as you will get some ink on your table, Start from the edge at a slight angle of the tool and go in a circular motion counter clockwise until you get your desired look.

Be careful you don't go into too far as you can't take it back.
You can use this technique to give a faded look around photos or images as well.

You can crumple the paper and then go over it lightly with your ink pad giving a plain piece of paper a completely distressed look.

Dry Distressing:
There are many ways to fray the edges, using many different tools the market has to offer. Her are a list of some tools you can use and what kind of finish they give.

Sandpaper: Can give two different edge finishes. You can get a soft edge by sanding the top outwards with about a 400 grit sandpaper. The next is sanding the edges in a back and forth motion giving it a ruffled frayed look with about 200 grit works best.

You can use plain sandpaper sheets in your hand or nail files, sanding blocks, or tools such as tim holtz sandpaper block that holds sandpaper sheets.

Distressing tools: These tools are for fraying the edges but are much easier to use than sandpaper.

To "dry" distress my paper, I usually use the tim holtz paper distresser. I put my paper into the slot and start at the top corner of one side and "scrape" it back and forth along the edge of the paper. You will get used to how firmly you need to do this. I then continue around the paper distressing all the edges.

Try your tool out on a piece of scrap paper first.
Different paper weights will require a different amount of pressure.
Be ready for the paper mess. You will probably get a little messy from the paper dust but the effect is so worth it.

There is also the zutter Distrezz-it-All which is an electric distresser. With this you can distress multiple papers at the same time with just a simple pass. You can also distress chipboard with ease like butter. I can't wait to get this tool :)

Tearing: You can tear the edges. There are many rulers out there that are made for soft tearing and give you tons of designs. You can try just tearing against any flat item and see how it turns out. Or just fussy tearing it however you wan to more your hand.

Torn: This look i like to use alot. just tear into the paper then kinda curl each torn piece. You can ink all the edges of the torn pieces and this gives your paper a very aged look.

Fire/ Heat Distressing:

Distressing with fire can be dangerous and is for adults only!!! I use a lighter (Never use matches)!! Hold the flame about an inch or more away from the edge of your paper so you don't set it on fire. Go back and forth in a slow motion along the edge until the edge starts to brown and and singe. This gives projects a very old look and you can do this after applying ink as well.

Try on scrap paper until you get used to doing it and find the desired effect you are going for.

Heat Gun (This is safer): You can get the same effect with your heat gun, you just have to go slower for it to heat up the edge of the paper. I would also hold it a bit closer, be careful as it gets very hot and holding it too long will turn the paper brown fast.

There are many ways to distress your projects, these are just the most common ones. Experiment with tearing, crumpling, scraping, inking, burning and any combinations of those things to give depth and even age to all your projects, trust me its worth the extra effort and its just plain fun!!!

Tipsy Tusday - Storing your Bottled Products

There are many ways to store all your bottled products, such as Sprays, stamp cleaners, glossy accents, paints, water squirt bottles, etc.... These are the ways i store some of those products.

I store my glimmer mist on one shelf on 2 of those making memories embellishment center storage units. You can see on the right a photo of one of my storage centers. i got mine at Michaels. You can also store all your other bottled products on here. I just love this thing!!!!

All my lindy's mist and stains are stored on one of those rotating metal racks for acrylic paint storage.
All my acrylic paints are also stored on the same rack.
I also store all my Adirondacks paint dabbers on the opposite side of my paint. You can get this at michaels! View picture on the right:

I store all the things i want at hand at my work station in a cropper hopper table storage rack. In this rack i keep things such as walnut stain sprays, glossy accents, stamp cleaner, and water squirt bottles. You can also fit some spray adhesives, glimmer sprays, paints...etc. I really like this unit and am considering to get another one You can get this at joanns.com View picture on the left:

Tipsy Tusday - Stamping Part 2

This week we will be talking about stamping. Ok so i know many of you use stamps So i will start with some tips on using and then storing different types of stamps:

Using Stamps

First when using a brand new stamp you want to ink it up real good and stamp on a scrap sheet of paper, do it a couple times before stamping on your project. This will get rid of any left over manufacture residue on the stamp and make it a more crisp, even and clean. I learned this tip from Michelle!
If you have done the tip above and you still get part of the stamp that just doesn't want to stamp. Try stamping with a note pad under your paper and apply even pressure all over the stamp, don't push too hard cause you may smear the image.
Another thing you can do is to place you stamp with inked side up on a flat hard surface, place your paper on top and run a brayer over it while gently holding the paper in place. This tip is more difficult, but if you have a stubborn stamp and the note pad does help you can try this.
Make sure you clean your stamps after use and as soon as possible to get all the extra ink off and keeping your stamp conditioned.

Storing Stamps:

I store my stamps 2 different ways. The first way is in a 3" 3-ring binder with base ball card holder sleeves. Yes the pockets are small but they are perfect for the small studio g stamps and inkadinkado and others like it. You can also purchase sleeve protectors for photos that have a variety of sized pockets. I get my pockets from office depot. The cheap trick is to wait for a sale or get a rewards card and then you get a discount on your purchases along with coupons that may be available online or in the mail.
The second way is on a clip it up system. I also get sleeves from office depot that are for storing dvd's and cut them in half. i use these for all my tall stamp sets like inkadinkado. I place a label on the bottom of the sleeve of the name and company. I currently store my rubber cling stamp in there original packaging on the clip in up. You can get a clip it up at many places, i got mine at ScrapbookWarehouse.com.
The other way i'm gonna switch to doing my rubber cling stamps is in a 3-ring binder. They make special plastic like sheets that go in binders that you can place your stamps right on and place a label on it at the top...more to come on this once i get it done. I got these sheets at ScrapbookWarehouse.com. I will take pictures☺
Another way some people store there clear stamps are in clear cd or dvd cases. The stamps will cling right to the plastic.
I store all my wooden stamps in several 6 drawer 12x12 cubes from ScrapnCube.com. They are seperated by themes.

Tipsy Tusday - Stamping Part 1

I know this is a little late this week and not on my youtube. But i'm sure you can forgive me...lol This week we will be talking about stamping. Ok so i know many of you use ink pads and some sort of stamps. So i will start with some tips on using and storing your ink pads:

Inks

Try and store all your ink pads so the pad part is level and upside down. Let gravity do the work and make the pads nice and juicy. This prevents uneven ink distribution as well.

If you use Tim Holtz Distress Inks and the inking pads. Store the pads with velcro on the bottom of the ink pad. This makes them easy to find and color coded.
To prevent your stamp pads from becoming muddy, clean your stamps when changing colors
I like to store mine by brand and then type like dye, pigment, chalk....etc. But you may find it easier to store my color.

For my craft space i store most of my ink pads in 2 different drawers (the ones i don't use the most). The ones i use the most (in my case the momento tuxedo black ink and distress inks) are stored on a ink pad caddy made by cropper hopper right on my desk for easy access.
Other ways you can store them are in old cassette tape holders or there are ink pad holder specifically made but these do run pricey. You can find cassette tap holders in many styles including rotating and on ebay, in thrift shops, flea markets and garage sales for penny's on the dollar.

Last year i had started a series on my youtube channel for "tip of the week". I wanted to start that back up starting next week. The tip of the week would be about things like, storage, deals, crafty tips, product reviews...etc. I'm not sure how i want to break it up cause i also want to do one tutorial each month. But i may do a series called "Tipsy Tuesday". It will be on my youtube and here on my blog. Let me know what you think and look for it starting next Tuesday!!!

Evening Bag

This evening bag started out with a template from LSH for the evening bag swap. I used two 8 1/2 x 11 sheets of light weight chipboard. I painted the inside and outside with white gesso. Then using mod podge i covered the outside with two different designer papers from the GCD Studios paper pad "Ella Blue" (My Favorite....hehe). Then i used some cream 6" flat lace and covered the main part of the bag. I place dangle trim around the bottom, then added a loopy pearl trim over the ribbon portion. On top of the the main part of the pearl trim i added sequin flower trim. On the flap i used a Tim holtz on the edge die to achieve the gorgeous ornate border. I edged the flap with the sequin flower trim all around except for the top edge. On the top edge i used "frosted Lace" Stickles to just give it a little sparkle with minimum dimension. On the top side of the purse, i added three rows of the sequin flower trim. I also added the same trim to the top edge on the back side. I used some pearl cording for the handle. I punched a 3/16" hole with my crop-a-dile on each side. I made a knot on one end of the cording and fed it through both sides, then made another knot on the other end. The purse is sturdy enough to actually use it as an Evening Bag.

I used a flower charm I had in my stash to cover the closure. It matched perfectly and already had the dangling pearl. I think it really added a contrasting eye catching piece to the flap.

I dressed up this satin flower by replacing the center with a Tim Holtz button. I then took Glossy Accents and dabbed all over the flower. Then covered it with Diamond Dust. This was the perfect touch to match the texture of the flower trim.

On the inside of the bag i covered it with flocked design paper from the same paper collection. You can see i used Velcro for the closure. There seem to be an issue with the Velcro being too powerful and ripping the paper, so i cut down the soft fiber and filed down the hard plastic side until it just catched a little.

I filled it with goodies ofcourse and then i was done. It was fun and easy. I hope you guys will give this a try.

Altered Chocolate Box for Lindsay

This was so much fun!!!!

Okay ladies, here is what i did. I painted the entire box with white gesso then the outside with golden brown acrylic paint. i covered the box with designer paper from my favorite paper collection by GCD Studios "Ella Blue". I then sprayed white ruffle trim with Lindy's Starburst Spray in "Dark Chocolate Truffle" and then with a Moon Shadow Mist in "Phantom Fushia". I layerd a dark brown ruffle rose trim all the way around. I made a ruffled rose trim flower and used this gorgeous cameo charm as the center. I used some Brown/Cream Picot Gimp Trim from my shop around the top edge.

I used several of my new i am roses flowers and leaves. I painted this flower with Lindy's Color Shots in "Opal Sea Oats" then brushed over them with Lindy's Starburst in "Frosted Forget Me Not". I accented the flowers with my handmade "Vintage Victorian" stick pin (coming soon to my shop).

I painted a Michaels $1 frame with Sailing Sky acrylic paint then went over it with Lindy's Color Shots in "Opal Sea Oats". I placed a vintage photo that i got in a swap from Germany last year (Isn't that photo just gorgeous and the little girl is so cute). I put the frame on a hinge so it can fold down for shipping and/or storage.

I painted the darker flowers with Lindy's Color Shots in "Opal Sea Oats" then brushed over them with Lindy's Starburst in "Frosted Forget Me Not". For the lighter flowers i did the opposite and sprayed them with the "Frosted Forget Me Not" and just painted the tip with the "Opal Sea Oats". I added a Tim Holtz Adage ticket "Bliss" which i distressed with my "Frayed Burlap" Distress ink, attached with a Tim Holtz memo pin.

This is actually a pin cushion i made using a piece of chipboard, foam, and some flat lace. Then to dress it up i covered it with the Ruffled Rose Trim to match the flower. I placed a Prima lace flower in the center and accented in with two of my stick pins. I attached the pin cushion to a doily i got in the cake section. The doily was sprayed with Lindy's Moon Shadow in "Buccaneer Bay Blue", Starburst Sprays in "Dark Chocolate Truffle" and "Baby Blue Aqua".

I made a ruffled rose trim flower and used this gorgeous cameo charm as the center.

To finish off i painted four wooden pieces with the Sailing Blue acrylic paint and a Color Shot in "Opal Sea Oats".

I just love the way it came out and almost didn't want to send it....lol!

Vintage Pizza Box

I really had so much fun making this and can't wait to join another swap or just make one cause i love it.....lol! I used a gorgeous 12x12" sheet of K&Co paper to make the box. I used Tim Holtz metal corners on the bottom. Then made it so it could hand with a luscious coca brown velvet scroll trim from my shop. On the sides i covered the ends with vintage silver buttons that i colored with a chocolate brown copic marker.

I used iamroses gardenias and painted them with several lindy's moon shadow mist in "Phantom Fuchsia", "Golden Doubloons", "Landlubber Green" and "Buccaneer Bay Blue". I also used recollection leaves. Colored a white "say it in pearls" by Prima with a dark chocolate brown copic marker.

Gotta love Tim Holtz book plates!!! I also use an adage tag "Dream".

One of my favorite things from Tim Holtz are the gorgeous knobs. I have finally brought myself to dip into the hoard vault and use one....sheesh that was hard...lol!

Shabby Chic Gazebo

Before

Construction: I started with about 7 sheets of 12"x12" white board, that you can get from Joanns. Its about the same as light weight chipboard. I traced a 9" circle and measured to get 9 equal sections, each section is about 3in wide at the bottom. Then i scored and cut on one of the score lines to the center. I also scored from one corner to another at the edge of each section to get an octogon. Then folded all the score lines and brought 2 sections together overlaping, creating a octogon cone shape. With some hot glue, i now had my top. Then i cut another 8" circle and made 8 sections and placed it under the top to make a ceiling and so it would be easy to attatch the railings and posts. Then cut a 1 1/4"x12" strip. I scored at a 1/4" to make a 1"x12" section (you will need 2 of these). Then scored every 2 3/4". I cut off the excess and made slits on the 1/4" side at each score mark. Then i folded and glued the 1/4" side onto the ceiling to make a 1" hanging lip. For the railing, i started by making 3" post and caps. The post was easy to make by cutting a 12"x3" strip, then scoring every 1/4". Using 5 sections i scored and folded them together, to make a quare. Make sure for the 5th section that you trim just a little off, it will help for a better square. With the post caps, i made a hexagon and scored, cut, and glued the same as i did for the top. I then place the cap in the post and marked where they touched to trim off the tip of the cap. The rails were put together with 1/4"x2 1/2" strips. The tip of the railing strips were cut at about 45 deg on each end for the back 3 sections. The side sections did not need this angle. I placed 6 more 3" post on top of the origional post to make the height 6". For the lattuce, i made one big 12"x12" lattuce. I measured the sections and made a template, then place the template over the lattuce at a diagonal and traced. I cut them out then fitted them in each of the back 3 sections. I then made two 6" post for the front and attatched every thing to the top. I decorated the inside, then glued it all to the bottom section, which is a 10" circle with 8 sides. I also made a 1/2" lip.

After

I painted the top with sage green and white acrylic paint. Also used Folk Art crackle medium. I also used sequin and pearl flower trim on the top edge. I also use white shabby rose trim painted with Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst Spray in "Frosted Forget Me Nots".

I used a 1 1/2" rose, and 3 1" roses from I Am Roses for the topper. Also painted the roses with Lindy's Stamp Gang Starburst Spray in "Frosted Forget Me Nots".

I used white 6" flat lace and white tulle for all the swags. I tied each of them with a painted I Am Roses flower. I also placed the flat lace on the outside of the back, from the bottom to the top, accross all three sections.

I place some gorgeous dangle trim in the window on each side. I covered the ribbon with the sequin flower trim.

Altered Birdcage

I'm so excited about this one! Can't wait to share this with you....so here it goes....

This is a $1 Michaels Birdcage.

After

I started by getting rid of the bright orange and painted it with white Gesso. I then colored the cage with an alcohol ink in "Meadow". To get a lighter look i took the alcohol blending solution with a sponge and went over the cage lightening the color as well as giving it a weathered look. Then took a ranger paint dabber in white and further distressed the bird cage. I wrapped two white recollections sprays around the bird cage. Then covered the bottom with this gorgeous rose and pearl trim in chocolate.

I painted I am roses flowers with Lindy's Starburst Sprays in the colors "Mountain Lavender Gold", "Wild Honeysuckle" and "Frosted Forget Me Nots". I went over the white flowers with "Creme Brulee Cream" starburst spray. I added all the colored flowers and extra leaves all over the cage".

I added a Tim Holtz ticket for a finishing touch. The grass is made of fibers that i sprayed with "Edelweiss Moss Green" Starburst Spray.

The bird is just from my stash but is so cute!

Charm and Butterfly Tag for LSH Swap

Front Side

Hey guys! I love the way this came out. I made this tag for the Spring Charm Swap On LSH. I started with a white recollection's tag. I sprayed it with Lindy's Moon Shadow Mist in "Phantom Fuchsia" and Starburst Spray in "French Lilac Violet". Then I stamped these cute butterflies. Distressed the edges with "Frayed Burlap" distress ink and embossed using the "Bird Flourishes" cuttlebug folder. I sprayed some fibers with Lindy's Moon Shadow Mist in "Phantom Fuchsia" and Starburst Spray in "French Lilac Violet" and tied them to the tag. Then I hung the charm i made for the swap from the fibers.

Back Side

I did the same as the front except I stamped my info on the back, and used a butterfly stamp from Cloud 9 Design's "Butterfly" cling stamp set.

Springtime Baroque Mini

Hi everyone, i wanted to share my first mini with you! i had so much fun that i will definitely be making many more...hehe. For the mini itself i used the Tim Holtz "Baroque" die and medium weight chipboard. For the theme i used the Graphic 45 paper line "Once Upon a Springtime". Using my distress crackle paint "Tattered Rose" i faded from the left to the right. Once the paint was dried i heavily inked over it with "Forest Moss", then took a damp paper towel and wiped the ink off leaving it in the cracks. I then went over the paint again with a Lindy's mica powder in the color "Holly Berry Red Orange".

I used some recollection flowers and also painted them with a Lindy's mica powder in the color "Holly Berry Red Orange". For the closure i used some gorgeous beaded dangle trim...just love this stuff. i Covered the ribbon part with velvet scroll trim that i also sell in my shop. then placed a flower where the velcro is.

On this page i used allot of Lindy's in the color of "Daybreak Ruby Russet". I painted the butterflies, the flowers in the paper pattern and a prima flower along with some i am roses flower petals, then attached the flower to an accordion fold out.

On this page i painted some roses from i am roses with a Lindy's mica powder in the color "Daybreak Ruby Russet".

I used white lace on both pages that was painted using a Mica Powder mixture in the colors Sunset Red Red and Mountain Lavender. On the left, I painted a recollections flower with a Lindy's mica powder in the color "Holly Berry Red Orange".

I sprayed both the tags with Lindy's Moon Shadow Mist in the color "Phantom Fuchsia".

I used "tea dye" distress crackle paint around the edge. Then painted a mixture of mica powders in the colors "Crimson Red gold" and "Ghostly Gargoyle White". I got the beatutiful rose trim from Becca...thanks sweetie! I sprayed it with Moon Shadow Mist in the color "Phantom Fuchsia" For the binding i used a gorgeous white and pearl cord and accented with cordinating fibers. You can get both the fibers and the cord in my shop!

Little Cindy Card

I made this card for Cynthia♥.

What i used:
Started with a 6"x12" piece of white cardstock, scored in half and some 6"x6" design paper and 5"x5" chocolate brown card stock. I painted the two flowers (I Am Roses petals) using Lindy stamp Gang mica powders in the colors Oak Leaf Olive and Opellacent peach Gold. Added a flat back pearl for the centers of the flowers. The boarder was punched with Martha Stewart punch around the page punches. I painted the decorative boarder using a mica powder in the color Boomtown Golden Bronze.The edges were distressed with the frayed burlap distress ink. I also Colored a stamped Greeting Farm image "Cheeky Beauty" with Copic markers on Gina K card stock. Then diecut and embossed the colored image using my Cuttlebug and a Spellbinders Nestabillities "Deckled Rectangles" die, then feathered around the image with vintage photo distress ink and adheared with pop dots. I also adheared everything with my ATG gun and the flowers with Glossy Accents.

"Spring is in Bloom" Double Decker Matchbox

Here is my first entry!!!

I made this double decker matchbox out of white chipboard using Cynthialoowho's tutorial. I covered it with a beautiful 12x12 floral paper sheet from the K&Co paper collection Celeste. I used a beautiful burgundy beaded dangle trim around the entire top edge. I covered the satin ribbon from the trim with white lace that was painted using a Mica Powder mixture in the colors Sunset Red Red and Mountain Lavender. The bottom lace has also been painted with the same mixture and wrapped around the bottom edge. The whole matchbox was also washed with a mixture consisting of a Starburst Spray in the color Ghostly Gargoyle White and Mica Powders in the colors Madonna Robe Blue Gold and Jolly Swagman Olive Green.

The flowers are all handmade using I Am Roses flower petals. The blue flower was painted with a Mica Powder in the color Madonna Robe Blue Gold. All the flower centers have been painted with a Mica Powder in the color Jolly Swagman Olive Green to give them a more realistic look, then a flat back pearl was placed in all the centers.

The butterflies are recollections and are just beautiful.

They went so well with this project that i used all that i had. So, now I'm on the hunt for more...hehe!

The purple flower was painted using a Mica Powder in the color Aurora Amethyst Violet and the inner flower with a Mica Powder in the color Blue Amethyst. The pink and purple flower was painted using Mica Powders in the colors Aurora Amethyst Violet and Sunset Red Red. The light pink flower was painted with two different mixtures of a Mica Powder in the color Sunset Red Red and a Magical Mica Powder in the color Ghostly Gargoyle White. All the flowers are sitting on a fluff of gorgeous spring colored fibers. I also accented a few of the flowers with pale pink and pale blue homemade stick pins. The top also has a pink prima flourish and a blue butterfly!

The small purple flower was painted using a Mica Powder in the color Mountain Lavender. I accented with White stamens giving some dimension here and there.

The pink flower on the left was painted with a Magical Mica Powder in the color Wild Honeysuckle Coral and Mica Powders in the colors Crimson Red Gold and Antique Menorah Gold.

The front of each drawer was also covered with the same paper then covered in pink prima pearls. The drawer pulls are wood knobs that you can get in any craft store. I painted them using a Mica Powder in the color Daybreak Ruby Russet. You do have to use several coats as it is not paint. But it came out gorgeous. The ends of the drawer pulls were covered with a medium layer of glossy accents using a paint brush, then dipped in a mixture of martha stewart glitter. The legs are also wood painted with a Mica Powder in the color Daybreak Ruby Russet.

I just had so much fun!

I'm so excited to share my first tag with you.

I gimmer misted the tag with Coral...one of my favorite colors. I stamped with a script stamp using tuxedo black memento ink. Edge the tag with walnut distress ink.

The heart locket does dangle!

I used a beautiful Prima flower. Edged it with stickles and covered the center with stickles. Accented the flower with a homemade stick pin. I used a beautiful lace for the bottom.

Back Side

Inside the envelope is a small scallop black tag that has been crackled with distressed rock candy crackle paint.

I used tons of Stickles! Just love that stuff...lol!
